A Day At Camp

Pre-Camp Childcare (7:30am - 9:00am)

Drop your child off for their day at camp at our convenient curbside station.  Your camper will be checked-in and then head to the Museum to play in one of our exhibit spaces.  In addition to the elements of this exhibit, your child can participate in art projects, games and other activities provided by the Museum staff.  We'll focus our time in one exhibit, the rest of the Museum will be open for exploration at other times of the day.

Daily Theme Program (9:00am - 11:30am)

During the morning camp session, your child will take on a learning adventure connected to the daily theme.  This may include venturing out to tour a local facility or having a guest visitor inside the Museum.  The activities very greatly, but promise to be engaging and entertaining.

Your child will not only get the opportunity to do hands-on experiments and projects, but we'll be helping him/her process through the informal learning that is happening.  Simple well-directed questions guide your child on a learning adventure.  Why do you think that happened?  What could have caused that ? What do you think would happen if we. . . ?

The camp session ends with a closing discussion, a summary activity and a bit of clean-up!

Lunch Time/Group Play (11:30am - 1:30pm)

During this 2-hour period, your child will have a time to enjoy the lunch you sent as well as engage in games with other campers.  After finishing lunch out on a picnic by International Fountain (or indoors), we'll play some interactive games that incorporate the 40 Developmental AssetsĀ®. This is an opportunity to have physical activity, play in teams and interact with other campers!

Choose a Path (1:30pm - 4:00pm)

Joining with small groups of campers (don't worry, we'll keep siblings and friends together if they prefer), we'll head out on adventures that take us through the Museum and across the Seattle Center Campus (weather permitting).  Based on the information you provided us, our educators will augment the play with learning opportunities in math, science, reading, social skills and more.

  • Your child may learn math and engineering basics on an adventures that includes the Metropolitan Market Exhibit, building projects in our Dunn Lumber Construction Zone and a measuring/estimating project that includes the Space Needle and EMP.
  • Your child can learn about Arts and Culture on an adventure that stops in our Bijou Theater for theater games, then visits Kobe, Japan in our Global Village exhibit where his/she will learn to use chopsticks and roll sushi.
  • Writing and Literacy are part of an adventure that takes us into Story Telling Circle for some interactive story reading as well as some practice in the art of story telling.  Weather permitting we will take a walk around Seattle Center campus where we'll practice writing colorful descriptors.

Post-Camp Childcare (4:00pm - 5:30pm)

Your camper will end his/her day playing in one of the exhibits inside the Museum or (weather permitting) playing out in Center Square. He/She can participate in art projects, games and other activities provided by the Museum staff. We'll bring your child to meet you at our curbside check-in point when you arrive.

Wondering about what camp is like?
In 2011, on "Let's Go Fly a Kite!" Day,

We did some indoor projects that taught us about flight!

We made some last minute adjustments!

And we were quite proud of what we learned!
