Birth to Five Programs

The Children's Museum, Seattle recognizes we have a unique opportunity to help meet formal educational standards in an informal way.

What does that mean?

It means that we study and know the Washington State Early Learning and Development Benchmarks and use them in our program designs.  For children from birth to five, our programs, games and playtimes are focused on using play to meet these benchmarks:

Physical Well-Being, Health and Motor Development
Social and Emotional Development
Approaches Toward Learning
Cognition and General Knowledge
Language, Communication and Literacy

Frequently Asked Questions

1. My child is only a year old, can he really participate in the programs?

YES! Our programs have a range of activities for children and their caregivers.  With you by his side, he can explore during Treasure Hunt Tuesdays or move his body to the music during our Wellness Wednesday dance parties.

2. My child is active and can't sit for a 30 minutes program.

No problem.  We don't expect active little ones to sit for the program and if your little one gets restless, you can move on to the next exciting adventure.  We recommend that you join us at the beginning of the program so you don't miss any of the introductory material.

3. Are the programs different every day?

Usually, yes.  You will find that some weeks we repeat favorite activities from previous weeks.  However, if we bring it back as a favorite, there's a good chance your little one will want to come back and enjoy the activity again.

Every weekday we provide a morning program for children ages birth to 5 years old and their caregivers (usually at 10:30am and 11:30am).  While our programs change each week, we follow these themes:

Messy Mondays

Treasure Hunt Tuesdays

Wellness Wednesdays

Try It! Thursdays

Facts and Fiction Fridays

Spontaneous Saturdays

Cultural Sundays
