    Festivals of Light

An Exploration of Festivals from Around the Globe

Festivals of Light is an interactive exhibit designed to explore a variety of winter celebrations through the lens of a typical family celebration.  Each week, the exhibit allows children to walk into the dwelling of a family celebrating a festival, including their kitchen and living room, a family craft table and a reading space.

This year, we are:
Exploring Diwali (Nov 25 - Dec 1, 2011)
Exploring Hanukkah (Dec2 - 8, 2011)
Exploring Santa Lucia (Dec 9 - 15, 2011)
Exploring Christmas Around the World (Dec 16 - 22, 2011)
Exploring Kwanzaa (Dec 23- 29, 2011)
Exploring the Chinese New Year Celebration (Dec 30, 2011 - Jan 5, 2012)

Rotating through the many winter celebrations, the Museum ask our families to help select the explorations each year.

Exploring

The Children's Museum, Seattle offers our Festivals of Light exhibit each year to provide children and their families the opportunity to explore a variety of celebrations and festivals that take place in the winter months.  Each year, the Museum adds a new celebration to explore based on voting by our members.  Understanding the winter traditions and celebrations are numerous, the Museum hopes to provide opportunities for families to explore traditions different from their own and find similarities and differences in traditions.
