Sensory Sensitive Hours

The Children's Museum, Seattle is proud to open our doors early to provide a sensory sensitive environment for children affected by disabilities or autism.  The Museum opens early with minimal sounds and dimmed lights, providing a quieter environment for children who may be over stimulated by the normal Museum activity.

The Museum will open at 8:30am on the first Saturday of each month at a reduced rate of $3.00 per person.  Tickets must be pre-purchased using the links to the right and are not available onsite.

If you have specific questions about the Museum, please contact our Director of Communications by email.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can anyone attend these early opens?

Technically, yes.  Although, we ask that you respect the need that some children have for a quieter experience in the Museum.  The intention of these early hours are so that children affected by autism or affected by a mental or physical disability can enjoy the Museum without the crowds and noises.

Do I have to pre-purchase tickets?

Yes.  This allows the Museum to know the number of attendees to expect.

When do the lights and sounds return to normal?

The Museum opens to the general public at 10am.  Shortly before that time, a staff member will walk through the Museum alerting families that the normal lights and sounds will resume shortly.
